Operating theatre and surgery
Planned and emergency surgery with careful preparation and recovery care.
Our operating theatre supports a range of planned and emergency procedures. Safety comes first at every stage: before, during and after surgery.
Before surgery
You meet the surgeon, who explains the operation, the expected benefits and the risks, and answers your questions before you sign the consent form. You may need blood tests and other checks. The team tells you when to stop eating and drinking.
On the day
The anaesthetist checks you before the operation. The theatre team confirms your identity and the planned procedure with a safety checklist before anything begins.
After surgery
You recover under nursing observation, first in the recovery area and then on the ward. Nurses monitor your pain, wound and vital signs, and the surgical team reviews you before discharge. You leave with instructions on wound care, medicines and your follow-up date.
To discuss a planned operation, ask your doctor for a surgical referral or call 0806 083 9148.
